Michelle has been training dogs for over twenty years, having studied under Harvey Blutreich at International School for Dogs. She’s trained dogs of all breeds and sizes—everything from Teacup Poodles to Irish Wolfhounds. She enjoys teaching dog owners how to have a healthy relationship with their four-legged companions.
Michelle keeps returning to your home until your dog is trained. For the average dog or puppy, it takes about 10 lessons to complete training. Positive reinforcement, consistency, clear boundaries, and short practice sessions go a long way when training a dog.
The key to training any dog, regardless of breed or age, is working with them in short spurts and giving them frequent breaks to process the new information. Michelle assigns homework at the end of every lesson: practice with your dog for just 2-3 minutes each day—shortest homework in history! Easy peasy.
Michelle really enjoys teaching kids how to train their family dog. She keeps it fun, simple, and engaging for everyone. Children are usually adept at training and pick it up very quickly!
Michelle runs 3-5 miles a day to stay strong so she can keep up with the dogs that need her. Fortunately, she’s never had to run away from a dog. If such a thing were to happen, she’d like imagine that she has a shot at beating said dog in a foot pursuit.
The old saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is totally untrue! Michelle has taught many dogs in their senior years without issue. Believe it or not, sometimes senior dogs are even more eager to learn than a pup!
